GoodSearch

"You Search, We Give"

What if Historic Riverside Cemetery Conservancy earned a donation every time you searched the Internet? Or how about if a percentage of every purchase you made online went to support our cause? Well, now it can!

GoodSearch.com is a new Yahoo-powered search engine that donates half its advertising revenue, about a penny per search, to the charities its users designate. Use it just as you would any search engine, get quality search results from Yahoo, and watch the donations add up!

GoodShop.com is a new online shopping mall which donates up to 30 percent of each purchase to your favorite cause! Hundreds of great stores including Amazon, Target, Gap, Best Buy, eBay, Macy's and Barnes & Noble have teamed up with GoodShop and every time you place an order, you'll be supporting your favorite cause.

And if you download the GoodSearch - Historic Riverside Cemetery Conservancy toolbar, our cause will earn money every time you shop and search online - even if you forget to go to GoodShop or GoodSearch first! Add the Historic Riverside Cemetery Conservancy toolbar!

Member Appreciation Party

members5-8_2Sixty members of the Historic Riverside Cemetery Conservancy were treated to a reception and lecture in the elegant, spacious Macon Public Mausoleum, graciously decorated in a tropical theme with Turkish rugs, potted palms, and flowers. Their palates were tantalized with shrimp and scallop ceviche, tropical fruits, a variety of homemade finger sandwiches, sausage balls, Becky (Bowdre) Cookies and grilled chicken wings (courtesy of maintenance crew member Bernard Lamb). A signature cocktail, the Screeching Parrot, designed by Andrea Miller, mixologist at Lemongrass Thai Bistro, was a fruity and festive aperitif. ("Did you say Screeching Parent?" slyly exclaimed Riverside Cemetery Board member Bert Maxwell.)

members5-8_1Author Rick Hutto gave a fascinating presentation about Chester Burge.  Hutto's book about the Burge family, A Peculiar Tribe of People-Murder and Madness in the Heart of Georgia, will be released by Lyons Press in the fall.

A gracious thank you goes to the following volunteers: Membership Chair Janet Walker, Co-chair Donna Hammack, Sue Bloodworth, Becky Bowdre, Bette-Lou BrownFrances Clay, Tina Dickson, Robin Ervin, Sally Heard, George Logan, Sally McKay, Wayne and Linda Montgomery, Mary Moody, Ginny Rozier, Billy Walker, Becca Winkle, Anne Youmans, Jasmine Head, and Erich Peschel.

Preserving the Past for the Future

The Conservancy's main objective is to develop programs that educate the public, beautify the cemetery grounds, preserve the cemetery's historic relevance to modern culture, and ensure the continuation of extensive cemetery records. In addition, the Foundation builds endowments to secure the long-term stability of the cemetery. We received a 501 (C) 3 non-profit designation from the IRS in December of 2005. All donations are tax deductible.

Several projects are currently underway to bring the history of Riverside Cemetery to the community. The Ocmulgee Heritage River Walk will also be extending its path across the river to give people the opportunity to visit the cemetery while still exercising! There are plenty of activities available for you here at Riverside Cemetery, and we would love for you to come and be a part of them!
